When loading and unloading, releasing trailer brakes in a controlled way is vital. Prevent damage to your trailer and the loading dock with bounce control.

Trailer damage can have serious financial and reputational consequences for your business. While there are risks when your fleet is out on the roads due to weather, or your drivers’ and other road users’ actions, another high-risk area comes during loading and unloading processes.

The invisible tension of the axle bogie built up during unloading can cause trailers to bounce when the parking brake is released.

WABCO bounce control offers a solution that prevents damage to your trailer, loading docks and cargo.

If you damage a trailer in this way, it can lead to costly repairs. It can also damage loading docks and the cargo on board, negatively affecting your business’ reputation and customer satisfaction levels.

WABCO bounce control offers a solution that prevents damage to your trailers, loading docks and cargo. Enabling a controlled release of the brake avoids jumps due to the invisible tension in the chassis, which can help reduce and eliminate damage sustained when unloading.

Bounce control for trailers

Bounce control forms part of WABCO’s Intelligent Trailer Programme – a range of 40 innovative trailer functions that increase operational effectiveness, safety and driver comfort.

It is designed to avoid sudden jumping of the chassis after unloading, which can cause damage to the trailer, loading bay and cargo. Tension can build up in the axle during the unloading process, which leads to a jump when the brake is released.

Bounce control reduces the chance of this happening. It also improves the safety of the driver and anyone involved in unloading, by reducing the chance of the trailer jolting.

Bounce control features

The ultimate aim of bounce control is to prevent damage to the trailer and loading docks by helping to avoid sudden jumping of the chassis after unloading. Bounce control is only needed at this point, as a one-time action. It can be activated via Smartboard, OptiLink, or independently by a switch.

It works by slowly releasing invisible tension of the axle built up during unloading, which can cause trailers to bounce once the parking brake is released. The tension can then be released sideways (left and right) for semi and central-axle trailers, or axle-wise (front and rear) for drawbar trailers

By using WABCO’s SmartBoard as well as having access to bounce control, it can help with monitoring an expansive range of trailer functions – helping to improve the operation’s performance. Implement another level of safety and security to your operation by adding bounce control to your fleet of trailers.
