Welcome to the first WABCO News Brake of 2021!
I would first like to congratulate Jon Morrison, who retired from his position as President, ZF CVCS Americas, at the end of 2020. During his 14 year tenure, Jon’s vision and leadership made it possible for WABCO and ZF to introduce products to the market that have fundamentally changed commercial vehicles—while positioning the business for future success. All of us at ZF wish Jon the very best in this new chapter of his life.
I’m honored to succeed Jon as Vice President, CVCS Americas. I look forward to serving the industry in this new position in conjunction with my current responsibilities as OEM Truck, Bus, Car and Fleet Business Leader, North America.
We’re already approaching our first anniversary since being acquired by ZF. In May of 2020, ZF completed its acquisition of WABCO in what can only be described as “The Perfect Match.” This new powerhouse is mobilizing commercial vehicle intelligence by further increasing the safety, efficiency, connectivity, intelligence and automation of customers’ vehicles.
By bringing together 4,500 dedicated engineers that are passionate about the trucking industry, ZF can now provide fleets with a single-source offering and an extensive combined product portfolio that includes steering, braking systems, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), stability control, powertrain, foundation braking, transmissions, e-mobility, fuel efficiency technologies and telematics. And we’ve already begun work on joint technology developments to unlock new capabilities that will make electric and autonomous trucks a reality.
“The Perfect Match” represents a game changing advantage for our fleet customers that can directly benefit their bottom line. For example, ZF’s recently launched active steering and ADAS products can help significantly reduce or eliminate costly lane departure accidents (the number one critical event for large trucks*). Additionally, the combination of our braking and ADAS products can help mitigate up to 44% of forward collisions by commercial vehicles**.
